A few years ago we were interviewing candidates for department chair and taking them out for a meal is part of the process. One candidate had really worked hard for their faculty and looked good to everyone. Then they were rude to a waitress. We didn’t hire them. Never be rude to wait staff and always tip well. You never know who might be watching.
