MacFUSE and SSHFS
I was a bit excited about MacFUSE and SSHFS, as it meant I could work on my remote stuff from within any editor I choose. Thus making TextMate as good as KDE’s Kate (Linux).
But it frequently hangs my whole Finder. And I had a very suspicious issue recently where I lost a lot of files on my website, and I think it was due to SSHFS hanging while I was trying to use it.
I can’t recommend this solution yet. And I wonder if they will be able to solve the apparent issues that always seem to crop up on Unix systems with remote filesystems in the kernel zone. That being, applications expect very fast file access and read times. CDs are pushing it. Network filesystems cause your apps to hang and react badly.
Is the problem fundamental and insolvable? perhaps. I hope the MacFUSE people get round it though.
VFS may be the only real solution. Roll on KDE 4 and KIO-4-Mac

I think jonty has a few comments on MacFuse as well. To paraphrase: “Gaaaaaaaaaaa!”
