Chavs: The Plague of Britain
At the bottom of this article, there’s a great little tale about some trouble-seeking chavs who get their comeupance.
I must confess, currently I absolutely abhor chavs, I feel a rudimentry, violent hatred for the scum.
Milton Keynes is a great city, out of all the places I’ve lived, I like it the best. I’ve lived in Croydon, Suffolk, Herefordshire, Bristol and Aldershot. Actually I liked rural Herefordshire best, but I can’t live there yet, there’s not enough employment opportunity.
It is great for driving (no traffic, fast roads), cycling (cycle paths everywhere), walking (plenty of parks and green areas), shopping (essentuials and luxuries), going out, and more little things, like the way the countryside is never far away.
It is getting too chavvy though.
Achieving nothing of any use, they fail their way through school with an end goal of living off benefits to fuel their careers in graffiti.
My taxes pay for these useless 12 through 19 year olds to litter and vandalise the town. But worst of all is the way they hang around in abusive, intimidating groups in public discourses. Even a bunch of 12 year olds can be intimidating if you’re by yourself and there’s 20 of them. I think the thing is I don’t understand them. It doesn’t fit when you see a 12 year old, smoking, and wearing a “what yer looking at?” expression. That kind of behaviour is just doesn’t fit with how I think about people, what’s to understand? Lack of understanding leads to uncertainty; I walk a different route.
I blame society and the Government, these louts have no respect, no work-ethic and nothing to do. Someplace, sometime our education system failed us and nowadays we spawn endless numbers of these good for nothing shits.
I feel somewhat ashamed that I felt better after reading the story I linked to. I think I have a problem, or perhaps my intolerance makes me no better than them. Whatever, I can’t stand it, I’m moving country, or maybe to some quiet rural spot.
I’m not in the UK, but i’ve seen plenty of anti-chav sites. I have to say, just from photos of them, I had the same impression that you’ve developed from first-hand knowledge. Where’s an elephant gun when you need one?

i just wonder wether i never noticed them as a kid or this subculture really just recently developed…
blaming the government won’t help much, though. this is a real homemade-problem. society changed quite a bit, most parents can’t afford spending as much time with their kids as we used to enjoy quite a few years ago. kids are frustrated with the outlook for their life and the media helps bombarding them with bad news and showing things they can’t afford.

It’s not that they can’t AFFORD to go for further education, they just can’t be arsed. I can say this looking straight in their faces because I was brought up in a council estate in “da hood”, fincancially disadvantaged but I am currently a healthy (almost) straight A student in 6th Form working towards a place for a degree in Computer Science at Cambridge. These Chavs need to be educated and taught to CARE, and if they have crappy family backgrounds, a) these crappy parents have no right to be parents and the government should regulate, or b) schools and government policies should educate them
I have to completly agree with schools for excluding crappy students at school. They will be a distraction to others, and in most cases, intellectual deficiencies will not let them progress too far into their academic progress, but they should be rounded up and placed in a special helping institution away from their shitty parents who are probably at a pub getting pissed at 1 in the afternoon and getting in punchups
My parents don’t get “chav” benefits but they probably get less than these parents who live on benefits, (I mean like ULTRA LOW) which is why my current location is a ghetto slum, but that hasn’t stopped them bringing me up propper, THERE IS NO EXCUSE BECUASE I CAN RELATE TO THESE SCUM I’VE BEEN THERE DONE THAT

Sooner or later everyone is going to get extremely fed up with the situation of chavs and eventually bit by bit the English public will say enough is enough! We are a very polite nation, how many times have you been on a bus where a chav is blarring out shitty music on thier mobile phone and everyone just hums and sighs and gives dirty looks but never says anything, then one person eventually has a go and then everyone will chip in, ticking time bomb I think.
What we need is another war where we can send them all off to be cannon fodder, I would love to witness the grand theft auto generation trying actualy combat, you would all probably get shot in the leg then look for health packs on the floor.

By dressing like that and/or behaving like that, they are just playing straight into peoples hands who want to put them down, laugh at them and make fun of them, and they are giving off hugely negative connotations about themselves.
I mean surely getting used to the idea that every shop security guard automatically thinks they are going to steal something, and watches them like a hawk every time they go into a store to buy something, and also getting the same treatment from the police, constantly being stopped and searched etc, and then not being allowed into any even half-respectable venue is bound to severely damage their self-confidence after a while.
If you’re standing in a que in the bank or something and someone comes in dressed like that, everybody looks at them like they are total scum, constant treatment like this would totally destroy any normal person and make them feel like total shit.
A lot of them will wake up one morning though and suddenly realise that they are trash basically, and that they have no education, no money, no job, no future, no prospects, no nothing.
Nobody in their right mind could be genuinely happy just sponging benefits their entire lives, i mean their options are pretty grim and limited.
I don’t really judge young teenagers though when i see them dressed like that, or hear them talking like they’re from Jamaica or something.
For a lot of them this is just a phaase, and i would tend to be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt a bit more. They’re only kids at the end of the day and i can never understand why some people possess such a venomous hatred for them.
However i can’t stand adults who dress and act like that and have no desire to better themselves.

I was never really like that though and thats why i got out of it. the level of stupidity and senseless violence apparent within my friends was astonishing. anyone can go to university or better theselves if they want, the government gives grants to anyone, personal development is what benefits is supposed to be for.
It’s quite simple chavs don’t want to help themselves. The government does more than enough for them and they throw it back in their faces. The only way to stop them is to stop being the softest and most pathetic country in the world. I’d like to see a chav start a fight and nick stuff in the middle east. They’d cut his fucking hands and cock off.
The rise of the Chav is the inevitable consequence of a country that actually allows a group of people to be the biggest strain on the police, NHS (injuries/stabbings), housing (council estates – free housing), fire service (arson attacks), prison service (which should be profitable not cost money – free labour) and generally makes everyones lives a misery.

Matthew August 13th, 2008 at 23:59I know I’m responding to some pretty old comments here and therefore I’m pretty much flogging a dead horse, but I have to take issue with all the people who apologise on the behalf of chavs for their rotten behaviour.
Firstly, the excuse that the chavs intimidation of others, foul language, mindless violence and vandalism is all down to boredom and there being nothing to do is absolute rubbish. What the youth of today has to play with whilst growing up, is generally the equal of, and often the better than what kids of previous generations had. The young of the eighties, seventies and earlier decades had pretty much the same streets to play in and walls to sit/walk on, yet they didn’t need national ‘youth projects’ to keep them from going round, smoking, insulting members of the public and making life a misery for others!
Secondly, some people seem to think that when we complain about chavs we’re putting down a whole generation of children. Last time I looked, chavs meant chavs, not a label for a generation (such as generation X or Y). The fact that most people seem to associate the word chav with the entire youth of today to the point that they can confuse it with all kids, to me says something about the number of youths who are chavs! It’s not as if they are a small minority either – scallys, neds, townies, etc. every place in the UK originally had it’s own word for violent, abusive yobs, rather like how many different languages have their own word for rain, or the moon and you can see them in pretty much any major settlement in Britain. Chavs, or kids who behave like chavs, are pervasive and widespread, not some small group that we have started viewing the rest of the young as.
Furthermore, there are those that in some way feel guilty for the chavs, perhaps even responsible in some way because they are virtually all from poorer backgrounds. (Well I’ve never known middle class chavs!)
This however is rubbish, as demonstrated by the comments by Matthew just above mine. Every British child receives a free state education, and a loan on generous terms (no real interest to pay – can be paid off when you can afford, or even written off if you don’t begin to earn above a certain threshold). This and the comparative abundance of jobs that are available (credit crunch and the ‘technical’ recession notwithstanding) mean that it’s perfectly possible, for a child of any background to get into a well paid, secure job provided that they put sufficient effort into their studies/career.
But what do most chavs do? They don’t care about school – the government had to criminalise truancy to get them to turn up! Anyone who has met a chav will know how they behave. I for one have seen the decline of behavioural standards at school just by comparing pupils from my own school year with those a couple of years below mine. Okay, so badly behaved school kids are nothing new you might think, and there have always been people saying the kids of their day are the worst they’ve seen.
But when the current standards of(mis)behaviour are considered it’s clear that this is something different altogether: kids routinely swear at teachers, threaten them or even assault them. Many of them smoke and have sex at an early age. Few, if any, show any kind of deference or respect to a teacher (or indeed any traditional person in authority.). I haven’t bothered to looked for any, but there will almost certainly be relevant statistics about this to back it up. It’s abundantly clear (to me at any rate) that these are not the actions of a struggling, misrepresented poor whose woes and suffering are not being understood, but those of a lazy bunch, who don’t believe it’s their job to look after themselves and improve their own lot. If they really were, then why would they need to smoke and be rude and worry other people, when they know what they are doing is at best disrespectful and unpleasant?
You could say pretty much the same about benefits too. Before anyone accuses me of peddling a stereotype, consider that the govt. figures for benefit claimants are the highest they have been for awhile and that many of those claiming have been doing so for a long time. Job seeker’s allowance is intended to be temporary, stopgap aid, not a wage! And judging by the rise in the amount of incapacity benefit claimants, we must feel sorry for the hordes of people who have suddenly ‘developed’ dyslexia or other (easily faked) mental disorders.
Again, these people could quite easily find work. Even if the jobs aren’t great, there’s a minimum wage and the conditions will be a lot better than what people in some parts of the world work in (yet they don’t feel the need to behave ‘anti-socially’ either..). A decent and deserving poor person would be working hard to try and improve their lot in life, not finding excuses to receive tax money from honest, employed people in place of having a job!
In fact, there isn’t really much that’s decent about the chav character at all. They seem to take a perverse pleasure in their causing of misery to others. Getting an ASBO is seen as a badge of honour, people who work are seen as odd, or just stupid. Everyone in the chav community tries to get by on benefits because to do without would make them stand out and why should they bother working anyway when they can get money for acting like a spasticated person for a moment?
I was in a fast food restaurant when some chavs asked an employee there why he was working there when he could just claim benefits or “deal some coka?”. Others said they wouldn’t dare work there. Obviously, these are rubbish jobs, but beggars can’t be choosers and a decent person would take any possible line of work to make themselves better off, not suggest benefit fraud or drug dealing!
This is the worst part of chav culture – it’s become so prevalent amongst the working class that it has become self-reinforcing and the norm for large sections of the community.
That’s the darkside of socialism I suppose. If you give out help unconditionally, you shelter the lazy or unwilling from the consequences of their sloth. There’s nothing charitable in helping a bad person. An unwillingness to be tough on kids when they try to be disrespectful tough on us, does not make our children happier, or society a gentler and less violent one, it merely lets loose those who enjoy causing havoc and misery for others, without having given them cause to do any different.
Worst of all these people instead of being grateful for our charity come to expect it and consider it completely righteous for them to be afforded a free lunch. In the meantime, misguided politically correct fools spout more gush about this being a sign that our society is not sufficiently caring, or that the decent people have somehow brought this out of them. No wrong can be laid at the chavs door. The madness and injustice of it all is tear-inducing.
Hopefully chavs, and other problems with our culture today can eventually build to the point that the British people will act – perhaps then we may enjoy a national catharsis and be happy again.
(Hell if you read all of that you should probably be happy anyway =P)

This so called chav people are living in their own little worlds of wannabe gangsters, pretending they don’t give a shit about anything or anyone but it’s not true.
I worked with a lot of so called chavs when I first arrived and became work friends with some of them. I found out that deep down inside they are lost and sad. The gangster thing is the only escape they have to feel that they are a part of something, that they are special and belong to something.
They need a helping hand, not a shot in the head like some people posted here. They were born in those conditions and didn’t really had a choice. Let’s think about helping these kids instead of hate them. Good Karma might be a good starting point. Start by saying good morning and smile to your chav neighbours, and soon enough they will respect you back. Because most of them haven’t felt that warmth their entire lives.
Remember that most of these people didn’t have a strong education and rules when they were growing up. The educated should educate instead of using hate.

I am shocked why no political party wants to end the dole COMPLETELY in the UK, i understand it was designed to help people get back to work, but it has just gone out of hand now. I came to this country about 3 years ago, the first impression wasn’t bad because people working in public services like city councils were polite and helpful, I lived in city centre, but when I moved to the area with council houses (we got one from the government because we deserved it not like them chavs picking on us because we can have something that they don’t have, and the answer is:”Because we are working, going to school and trying to the best for our lives and you chavs are just using benefits”) loads of chavs started to pick on us because we are from different country.
There are exceptions of course, for example my friend lives in the area where chavs are not acting hard for everyone and they respect people from somewhere else.
And that’s what I think.

When I was 21 and at Uni, there was one night where i was minding my own business walking along the street to the takeaway extremely near to my flats, tho i will be first to admit I was dressed in Heavy Metal clothing, but I was leaving a house party so yeh i was dressed all up in my metal gear for that, and a group of about 3 chavs were walking the other side of the road, to which i wasnt paying much attention to. Next thing i Know i heard fast running and i get sucker punched from the side by one of them (as theyve all run across the road to my side) i just turned and glared at them and for a second thought about doing summat, but i just wanted a nice easy night so i didnt want the hassle (plus i have literally NEVER ONCE been in an actual fight where i bothered to fight back), anyways they all walked away laughing, i got my takeaway and went to police station to report it, coz i was studying criminology with psychology and at the time we were doing alot about police records and statistics of reported crime etc so i figured i should atleast report it so it could at the very least go on record as a crime that had occured, i got there and got very assy looks from the police woman on the front desk, (as i was still wearing my metal stuff, it was late and i was too tired to change). Anyways they asked if i could remember what they looked like, i gave a brief description and told them the area that it had happened in, and basically they (at this point a female and male officer) told me that short of any major physical damage to my face i had insufficient proof for them to even record the event or bother looking into it. Which is typical, nowadays ive been put off the police force, which i once wanted to join, sheerly because ive found most police are simply too lazy for the paperwork and the effort to do anything about chavs and generally have no power, i mean ive heard cases of policemen being sued by chavs for swearing at the chavs, whilst these same chavs had been attacking an elderly woman. Its rediculous i cant see how swearing is really the priority here, yet the chavs walked away with just a warning and the officer had to go on a training course on how to deal appropriately with people (i.e. not swearing)! Also ive had numerous encounters with chavs in shops intimidating the shop keeper into giving them food and drinks for FREE, now if that shopkeeper says fuk off and is verbally abusive in anyway (even if they are so to him first), he’ll end up getting done for swearing at minors,when inevitably they complain and play the victim to their parents, if he rings the police, they simply wont come, so it ends up being easier for him to just let them take the stuff for FREE, but fucks me off coz the rest of us have to pay! Also my gf was once in a Lidl store and this chav girl tried to steal stuff, so one of the store workers pulled her aside and called the security, so then she starts screaming, and making a scene so the security turn up, she breaks free of the store worker holding her and she tries to make a run for it, to which the store workers lock the doors, so my gf is now stuck in along with other customers in this increasingly tense situation. Then, the bf decides to smash thru the glass doors with a tree branch and attacks the store worker who was holding the chav girl by the arm, in the end by the time the police arrived theyd managed to escape and the bf had threatened to come back and kill the store worker!

We nailed them through the Police, so it can be done if people actually get off their arses and make a stand!
It’s no good people sitting at home, complaining about them harrasing them etc, and not doing anything. You have to make a stand! Attend local PACT meetings with the Police and councilers, and give them hell. Trust me… you would be surprised at what can get sorted. It worked for us.

Law abider. March 1st, 2010 at 9:51I was born and brought up in London and although I went to a primary and secondary school full of chavs in a fairly chavvy area, I never become a one or even half a chav.
I believe some of this is down to family values and your surroundings, probably because I knew my dad would beat the living crap out of me if he knew I was out in the evening hanging around street corners.
The strange thing is, as I grew up I expected other countries to have this growing chav issue too, so I visited countries such as the US, Hong Kong, Australia, and parts of Europe, and to my amazment, I discovered that they don’t have kids aged around 10 to 15 hanging around in the evening in public places causing public disorder. These kids would actually either be at home or at their friend’s place or an actual public place like a cinema.
To this day, I’m still baffled why hanging around on street corners with a bunch or twats is so amusing to chavs, (oh, and now they have new toys called mopeds that make a noise just like hairdryers). Wouldn’t they rather be playing Xbox games at home in the warmth.
They’re bugs that need to be squished!
Anti Chav March 11th, 2010 at 11:36I am a Canadian University Student and I heard the word Chav on a website somewhere (youtube I think) and I was really confused what one was, I did a google search and came across this blog. After reading some of these comments, I honestly feel bad for anyone living in England right now. We have a similar problem in Vancouver, just on a much smaller scale with drug addicts. While we have a couple thousand drug addicts shooting up in public and being a nuisance, you have almost have an entire class of your population being idiots.
I have heard stories about England from friends and they’re not good, is it true that you have pregnant 12 year olds? Thats disgusting! Over here the majority of our crime is drug related and isn’t random, except in clubs and bars where alcohol is the most likely culprit. We have project housing, I had friends that grew up in them also. But the level of social decay you people are describing is truly disturbing. I’ve never honestly felt really unsafe in any neighborhood in Vancouver regardless of its reputation. Hell even Toronto’s Jane and Finch neighborhood was comfortable in comparison to what you guys are describing. Seriously walking across the street to avoid them? I’ve been to the South side of Chicago and I never had to do that their and thats a dangerous part of town.
I come from an immigrant family, we didn’t have everything growing up I did get into quite a bit of trouble and made some truly notorious connections that still make me nervous whenever I see the word background check on a job application or advertisement. I’ve even begun seeing friends who I grew up with plastered all over the newspapers, when ever the police begin their latest anti-gang push.People can change and killing these idiots won’t be as satisfying as knocking reality into their idiot heads. I’d be plastered all over the newspaper with headlines highlighting gang affiliations if I hadn’t wised up, or even dead.
I am now in one of the top universities in the country, studying to get a Business Degree and my CMA. My family came to this country with nothing but the clothes on their back, my father through sheer force of will and ingenuity started his own business and now we have assets in the millions. The man makes the money, the money doesn’t make the man. Thats something that your ‘Chavs’ need to learn. If the man doesn’t put forth the effort he will end up as either a bum or a minimum wager for his entire life.
Hell actually making the big money selling drugs isn’t easy, trust me I have enough dead friends and a cousin to vouch for that. It takes a drive to get up beyond your current position to do anything, regardless of whether it is supposed ‘easy’ money (which it really isn’t).
I’m not saying keep them on the ‘dole’ because they could one day wise up and figure out that they’re idiots. I suggest, cracking down and hard, begin a boot camp program and mandatory military service for those unable to find work. I’m sure your generals wouldn’t mind a few idiots to kick around and a bit of extra cannon fodder. Get to these kids before their parents ruin them, start young, take the kids and put them into boarding schools and put the bulk of their ‘benefits’ towards that. You will save money in the long run. Honestly your ‘Chavs’ remind me of the Native Indians here, all most of them do is drink, smoke, take drugs and basically waste our tax dollars as our dumb ass government seeds more land to the tribes as part of the ‘treaty process’. I’m sure most of them receive more benefits than your ‘Chavs’. They get 15 thousand for just graduating high school. I even met one that was receiving a free university education and they even paid for her damn cell phone. Whatever happened to working for your money? Nobody ever gave me 15 thousand for graduating high school, I did that because I didn’t want to be homeless in the future.

All the chavs, all the scrotes, all the tracksuit-wearing scum have invaded and where have all the decent people? Where have all the people with standards and class disappeared to?
Even the ‘posh’ teenagers in our neighbourhood want to drive like maniacs and dress like some reject from Haus de Chav.
What’s happening to Britain! Parents working too much and spending no time with their children? Or is it just a case of the scum get more benefits the more scumbags they give birth to? I am not sure but in another 10 years, can you imagine how awful the UK might just be?
