Composed in the shower

March 31st, 2007

Along a lane, I spied,
A bumbling pig, cross-eyed,
He didn’t notice me,
I kept to his periphery!

I think there’s special stuff in the shampoo, as when the suds slipped from my hair and into my ears, this poem just popped into my mind.

Why British Plugs Rock

January 16th, 2007

Other countries laugh at our plugs because they are big and that. And this is true, but our plugs are better than yours and here’s why:

  • The pins are thick and solid, they won’t bend or break.
  • The plug fits extremely well in the socket. It is snug, and secure. It resists removal.
  • The pins are rectangular in cross section, and the earth plug is perpendicular to the other two. So you can’t try to insert the plug the wrong round if using an extension lead or whatever might confuse you.
  • The live and neutral supplies are shielded until the longer earth pin is inserted into the socket. The earth pin is longer to allow this.
  • The live and neutral pins are insulated part the way up, just the right length so that it isn’t possible to get fingers in between the plug and socket and touch live pins.
  • The plug itself contains a fuse
  • Every plug is earthed
  • The socket itself has a switch on it so you can easily isolate any electrical device, even those without on-off switches
  • Our supply is 240V throughout, so we can run 3000W heaters anywhere if we like
  • Our plugs can carry 13A, and do so safely

There are more, but I can’t think of them now.

Also I realise not all these points counter every plug. Eg continental European plugs are pretty good too. Ours are still better though ;)

Counter arguments are welcome.

Erotic furniture

I think we can all agree, this is appropriate in any family home.

If you like, buy here.

I am in no way affiliated with these people. Although I expect deep down I wish I was.

When I run my own company, I pray that I find the time and inclination to give myself a cool office. Something like these ones.

Six Word Stories

November 9th, 2006

This is fun. The principle being, tell a story in six words. By far the best on the page is the initial example by Hemingway:

For sale: baby shoes, never worn

It’s great because you can imagine an entire story, and a moving one at that, from just those six words. I can imagine seeing a sorrowful looking man posting that card in his local newsagents.

I thought I’d have a try, for fun:

I knew. She knew. Pretending otherwise.

It doesn’t evoke any particular story, which Hemingway’s did, and that’s why his is masterful. I could have been more interesting with more words probably. Or maybe with a few more days thinking.

Now it’s your turn. Go on! Give it a go :)
